Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) is a public university located in the Rwenzori region of Western Uganda, with a strong mandate in science-driven education, applied research, and community transformation. The university is strategically positioned within one of Uganda’s most ecologically significant landscapes, making it a key contributor to research on climate resilience, natural resource management, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
As a core institutional partner in the Strengthening Smallholder Farmer Resilience to Climate Change (SFR2CC) Project, MMU works closely with Kabale University and the Freshwater Resources and Ecosystems Research Group (FRE-RG) to bridge higher education, research, and community practice. The partnership focuses on joint curriculum development, participatory research, and capacity building in climate-smart water and land management.
Through this collaboration, MMU contributes to:
- Co-development of regionally embedded postgraduate training programmes
- Advancement of gender-responsive and community-driven research agendas
- Innovation in smallholder water management and climate adaptation solutions
- Strengthening knowledge exchange between universities, farmers, and policymakers
MMU’s engagement with FRE-RG strengthens regional scientific capacity and supports the development of locally grounded, academically robust, and socially responsive solutions for climate adaptation and sustainable natural resource management in Uganda’s highland regions.
